Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer virtual services?

Yes. Virtual speech and language services are available throughout California.

Do you work with adults?

Yes. Services are available for both children and adults, depending on current availability and individual needs.

Do you currently have a waitlist?

At this time, we do not have a waitlist. We do anticipate filling our schedule in the coming months, so we encourage families to reach out soon if they are interested in services.

Can I reach out even if I am not sure what service I need?

Yes. You are welcome to reach out even if you are unsure where to begin. I am happy to help guide you based on your needs.

What insurance do you take?

I Empower Speech Therapy is currently a private pay practice and is not in network with insurance plans.

Are you private pay?

Yes. Services are offered on a private pay basis.

Can I use my insurance for reimbursement?

Depending on your plan, you may be able to use out-of-network benefits or submit a superbill for possible reimbursement. Families should contact their insurance provider directly to verify coverage, reimbursement eligibility, prior authorization requirements, and reimbursement procedures.

What if a speech therapist is not available in my area?

If you are unable to find an available in-network speech therapist in your area, contact your insurance plan and ask whether they can help locate an available provider, authorize an out-of-network provider, or explain whether teletherapy may be covered.

What are the benefits of starting services now instead of waiting?

Starting services now allows your child and family to receive support sooner during an important period of development. Early support can help reduce frustration, build communication skills, and give families practical strategies they can begin using right away. Rather than spending time waiting without support, families can begin making progress now with individualized guidance.

What are the benefits of private pay versus insurance?

Private pay often gives families more flexibility in scheduling, fewer delays related to referrals or authorizations, greater continuity with the same therapist, and a care plan based on the child’s needs rather than insurance limitations.

What is an IEE?

An IEE, or Independent Educational Evaluation, is an evaluation completed by a qualified professional who is not employed by the school district.

Do you offer IEEs?

Yes. I offer Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) in speech and language-related areas, based on the concerns being addressed and current availability.

What if we do not agree with the school assessment?

If you do not agree with the school district’s assessment, you may have the right to request an Independent Educational Evaluation.

What if we do not agree with the school’s services or recommendations?

If you do not agree with the school’s services, eligibility decision, goals, placement, or recommendations, you may request an IEP meeting to discuss your concerns, review your procedural safeguards, and consider dispute-resolution options.

Are you on social media?

Yes. We share helpful information, practical tips, and resources for families through our social media platforms.
